Reen and Simon spent six years between Uganda and the UK before settling in the UK.
Some thoughts on their dual lives...
* Zungu is widely used to mean white person in East Africa.
Simon came to Uganda with his mother and her missionary group. He spotted Reen in the pool of a local hotel and hoped that by teaching her to swim, he would win her affections. Reen had their first child, while still at university, and managed to complete her law degree with the support of both sets of grandparents. Simon struggled to stay in work due to his
Asperger's condition, so they recently relocated to Northern England, where Simon is the stay-home-dad to their four kids, and Doreen is
working for a solicitors.
